Plant extracts - antiinflammatory, immunomodulatory, cytotoxic and antimutagenic effects in animals

Cytotoxic activity of five synthetic monoterpens studied against cancer cells HepG2 and Caco-2 declined in the order: carvacrol > thymol > eugenol > borneol > eucalyptol Carvacrol. thymol, borneol and eucalyptol did not induce any DNA lesions at IC≤50; eugenol induced in Caco-2 cells small, but statistically significant increase of DNA-strand breaks synergistic with the effect of H2O2 The most potent DNA-protective effects against H2O2 –induced DNA lesions in different cell lines manifested<600 mM thymol and <300 mM carvacrol; in HepG2 cells also <3000 mM borneol
