Project duration: 2005 - 2007
Modulation of HLA-G and HLA-E antigens expression.
The subject of this project is to study the cell surface expression of non-classical HLA class I antigens HLA-G and HLA-E in tumor cells. It will be examined mechanism/s that up-regulate constitutive expression of HLA-G and HLA-E molecules or that unlocks de novo HLA-G expression. The release of soluble HLA-G proteins in various pathological conditions will be also investigated. The objective of this study is 1. to shed light on the currently controversial data regarding HLA-G protein expression in tumor cells and tissues 2. to determine whether HLA-E, detected in leukemia cell lines, is also present on malignant hematopoetic cells from leukemia patients.
