Plant extracts - antiinflammatory, immunomodulatory, cytotoxic and antimutagenic effects in animals

Project leader: Darina Slameňová
Project duration: 2005 - 2007

The project is aimed at a complex analysis of plant extracts (essential oils) from the point of view of their antiinflammatory, immunomodulatory, protective and cytotoxic effect with respect to a perspective of their further application. We will use the standardized models of inflammation (caragenan, oxazolon, TNBS) in laboratory animals. In addition to this we will study protective/cytotoxic effects of the compounds isolated from medicinal herbs to DNA of hamster lung cells V79 and human colonic cells Caco-2. In the final phase of research we will use all mentioned analytical approaches to a complex study of a selected (the most appropriate) herb extract.
